Sites We Like

John here again. Lisa still on assignment in Morning Sicknessville.

Every so often we will be adding links to the blog of sites that we like. Most of the links will deal with food, obviously, but an occasional non-food one will pop up as well.

The first two links we have up are excellent as far as restaurants in South Jersey. Cape Cuisine is a restaurant news blog chock full of tidbits about places and events in Cape May and Atlantic Counties. Rob Seitzinger does a wonderful job, and has a new post almost every day. If a new restaurant has just opened or is planning on opening, Rob has probably already blogged about it.

I am so very glad to have stumbled upon the SJ Hot Chefs website. This is the site for the SJ Independent Restaurant Association, a group of chefs/owners committed to promoting restaurants in South Jersey. Not only are they trying to get the message out about the wonderful places to eat in the area, but they also promote the use of local farms as their suppliers. We have eaten at a few of the restaurants that are part of this association, and will certainly seek out others in the future. Great stuff.

Oh, and one other thing…

I participate in a fantasy baseball league. Our league has been around for 20 years, and to celebrate this we decided to have this year’s draft in Cooperstown. Well, evidently, a writer for the Courier-Post decided to do a story about us. Weird, I know. Anyway, here’s the link to it if you’re so inclined:

By the way, if you like beer and you find yourself in Cooperstown, make sure you go to Brewery Ommegang. Lovely Belgian beer made by locals. Heaven…pure heaven.

Early on, it was important to be a good member of the food writing community. Cape Cuisine was one of the early local food sites that I liked to follow. Sadly, Rob Seitzinger has long since stopped this site. SJ Hot Chefs is still going, through all the ups and downs of the South Jersey restaurant environment.

I still can’t believe that trip to Cooperstown actually worked. I also can’t believe that I’m in the same league, which will be celebrating 30 years of existence. You could draft Mike Schmidt in the first year of the league, for goodness sake!

And my love for Ommegang has not wavered. – John H-F, February 2018
