Friday Foodstuffs 1.9.09: E-A-G-L-E-S…Iggles!!!

Once again, I cannot hide the fact that I will have a major rooting interest in a sporting event. This time, it’s Sunday’s Eagles v Giants playoff game. Guess who I am rooting for?

Anyway, one of the best things about the Iggles making the playoffs is that for every playoff game we can attend an Eagles party thrown by a couple with which we’re good friends. These are not your ordinary chips and dip affairs; nay, these are special green food ONLY parties. Yes, everything consumed will be colored green, either naturally or by food coloring. Beer? Green. Rice Krispie treats? Green. Sauerkraut? Green.

I know what you’re thinking: you need visual proof. Don’t you worry…that can be arranged.

On to the Winter edition of the Festival of Foods…and a light weekend to start. Tonight is the Muskrat Dinner down in Salem. Yes, they really do serve muskrat. I think I’ve convinced Lisa that we’ll have to do this once. On Saturday, you have the Winter Russian Festival taking place at the Garden State Discovery Museum in Cherry Hill.

In addition to these events, there are some special yummy restaurant dinners coming up:

Rob Seitzinger on his Cape Cuisine Food & Dining blog is posting about a special wine and cigar dinner taking place at Gia’s in Wildwood on Wednesday the 14th.

daddy O in Brant Beach on LBI is having a special wine dinner featuring wines from Stags’ Leap Winery in Napa Valley on Friday the 16th.

If beer is more your thing, then check out Carolina Blue Smokehouse and Taproom in Mantua. They are having a special beer tasting dinner on the 29th with Victory Brewing Company. Bill Coveleski, co-founder and brew master of Victory, will be on hand to talk about their beers. If you order your tickets online today, you get 10% off the ticket price.

Here’s a new course being added to the Friday Foodstuffs menu: The Recipe Review. Every Friday we’ll select a sampling of cool recipes posted by fellow food bloggers. This week we have:

Sadly, the list of restaurants closing continues to grow. The latest victims include Szechuan Gourmet Chinese Restaurant & Sushi Bar in Ship Bottom and O’Malley’s Bar and Grill in Gloucester City.

On the bright side, eateries are also opening. Temptations Fine Coffee & Chocolate, featuring chocolates from Jacques Torres, will debut next month at Harrah’s Waterfront Tower in Atlantic City.
