Do Something Different for Mom’s Day – Explore Our Wineries

Mother’s Day is less than two weeks away, and if I followed my typical pattern I would be searching and searching through sites and more sites to put together a list of restaurants having a special dinner or buffet for that day.

But I’m not going to do that this time. I’m going to do something a bit different. And maybe, it will inspire you to do something different as well for Mom’s Day.

We here in South Jersey are fortunate to have a number of wineries located within 2 hours drive from pretty much anywhere in the area. If you have not taken the opportunity to see any of these wineries, what’s up with that?!?! Seriously, though, it’s worth the effort to go and try them, regardless of whether you are a wine aficionado or not. For the novice wine drinker, you get a chance to find out more about what you like and don’t like. For those who know enough to be dangerous (like us), you get to work on your palette skillz and become more educated with the wine-making process. And for those of you who would scoff at the notion of drinking a South Jersey wine, you might be pleasantly surprised at what you find; and if not…well, there’s always a pretty vineyard to view.

The Garden State Wine Growers Association does a great job in organizing state-wide events to help promote the wine industry here in Jersey. One of their best programs is their Wine Trail Weekends, which happen a few times during the course of the year. On those weekends, participating wineries offer special tours, food, and entertainment. This year they have added a new Wine Trail Weekend for Mother’s Day, which brings me to the title of this post. Now don’t get we wrong; Sunday brunch with Mom is always a good plan, and Mom will enjoy it. But if you know your mom enjoys wine, or maybe she’s not into wine but would enjoy trying something different, why not check out a local winery?

NOW here comes my list – of South Jersey wineries participating in Mother’s Day Wine Trail Weekend. The Wine Trail Weekend is on Saturday (5/9) and Sunday (5/10) from 12PM to 5PM each day:

  1. We did a tasting tour last year and are doing it again this year. Going to Amalthea, Sharrott, Renault, one more.

  2. bilhelm96 – Sounds like a fun time to me! We want to try more local wineries this year as well. – John

  3. I’ve been to quite a few of these, and one of my favorites happens to be Heritage Station. One of the big factors for ms is it’s easy to get to off of 55. Of course, if driving isn’t your bag there is a local company that does a tour of a few SJ vineyards. Arrive in Style Wine Tours or something like that. I’ve not yet taken their tour yet though.

  4. modF – Like Heritage Station as well (went apple picking there last fall). I just recently found out about that Arrive in Style wine tour, and it sounds pretty nice. – John

  5. Whoa! You guys have a lot of wineries around you! I had no idea. I should check and see if there are any near me in Mass. Hmmm…You’ve inspired me! Yay (and thank you)!+Jessie
