Kids Restaurant Week and Chef Wars 2: One for the Kids, and One for the Adults

It’s that time of year – when the kiddies go back to school. With Labor Day later this year, it will seem like the kids have an extra week to get out their last bit of summer ya-yas. And while they do that, or maybe after they do that, why not treat the little ones to a special kids meal prepared by some of the best chefs around?

I’m talking about Kids Restaurant Week, which will run from August 30th to September 3rd. This is the newest event from the chefs at SJ Culinary Events, and they seem to be putting together one cool event after another every month. Check this one out: for kids under the age of 12, they can get a 3-course meal for $9.99. And this will not be your typical kids menu fare; not only are these items meant to taste good, they will be healthy as well (which may or may not be the case when the kids have lunch in school). Some of the menu highlights include:

First Course
Mini Chicken & Cheese Flautas (Tortilla Press, Collingswood)
Seasoned shredded chicken rolled in a crispy corn flauta shell. Served with our special jersey fresh tomato salsa for dipping

Cucumber and Baby Tomato Kabobs (blueplate, Mullica Hill)
Dill sour cream dipping sauce

Second Course
Grilled shrimp with Jersey fresh Peach Salsa (Tortilla Press)
Served with coconut rice & fresh sauteed green beans

Homemade Gnocci and Meatballs (Mirabella Cafe, Cherry Hill)

Third Course
Strawberry & Banana Quesadilla with whipped cream (Tortilla Press)

6-Flavor Italian Gelato Sampler (Mirabella Cafe)

So, give the little ones a treat before they’re sequestered, erm, I mean before they head back to those institutions of learning.

The first edition of Chef Wars has not even been completed yet, but that doesn’t mean you have to wait for the next round of competitors! Series 2 of Chef Wars from SJ Hot Chefs has already gotten underway. Here are the eight competing chefs for Series 2:
