An Annual Tradition: My ‘Take Mom to the Winery’ Message

Yes, I did this last year too, so it’s now officially a tradition.

There are lots and lots…and lots of places that will be having some kind of Mother’s Day brunch or dinner on Sunday. We have a bunch of them listed here on our Events page, and this doesn’t even exhaust all the possibilities. And while I’m not saying that Mom won’t enjoy herself going to one of these, I would like you to at least consider taking her for a nice little drive out to one of the many wineries in our area.

Once again, the Garden State Wine Growers Association is having a Mother’s Day Wine Trail Weekend this Saturday and Sunday from 12PM to 5PM (at most locations). It’s a great opportunity to try some local wines for the first time…or to reacquaint yourselves with them. Even if you’re not a big wine drinker, a wine tasting can be a fun exercise. And because it is a special Wine Trail Weekend, there will other things going on at each winery besides just sampling their vintages. Here’s what’s going on (in their own words):

Amalthea Cellars (Atco)
If you have not been to an Amalthea wine trail, Mother’s Day weekend is the perfect time to start! You’ll be guided by one of our expert wine pourers through our current vintages of dry white, dry red, and semidry wines while you enjoy a selection of gourmet cheeses, breads, and crackers. Give Mom the royal treatment with Amalthea Cellars’ legendary vintage and barrel tasting. For a fee of ten dollars you will be guided through the winemakers selection of favorite past vintages that have made Amalthea Cellars a rising star in the wine industry. Guests are given barrel samples and offered future prices of our upcoming future star vintages as well as an assortment of our famous homemade finger foods and legendary wine paired treats.

Auburn Road Vineyard and Winery (Pilesgrove)
Take Mom out to visit the Garden State’s wineries on Mother’s Day! We will have free tastings and tours throughout the weekend and a free amazing Chocolate Rose from Sweet Mary’s Chocolates of Woodstown for all the Moms who visit. End your wine trail with us on Saturday as terrific and eclectic band FrankenSabbath perform from 6 to 8 PM in the Enoteca playing a musical tribute to Mothers!

Bellview Winery (Landisville)
This Mother’s Day Weekend we will have a sampling of delicious home-made desserts to taste with our wines; and Dominique’s Sweet Creations will be here with her yummy selection of baked goods. Bring Mom out and see which combinations of wine and dessert you each like best. Also, the weather should be beautiful, so play a round of croquet or bocce ball whilst savoring a glass of wine outside for a lovely weekend afternoon.

Pennington Station is making a name for itself among area fans of classic rock & roll, with a unique format featuring acoustic guitar musicianship with tight three and four-part harmonies. Their repertoire favors harmony rock & roll songs from the 60s and 70s, with a nod to great tunes from the Beatles, Eagles, CSNY, Loggins & Messina, Jimmy Buffet, Doobie Brothers and countless others along with lots of fun surprises thrown in. Formed in 2006, the quartet’s members include two from the Jersey Shore, one from Mercer County and another from Bucks.

  1. We're going again this year too, which puts us at three years in a row. We will be doing the Gloucester Salem Cluster: Cedarvale, Auburn Road, Wagonhouse, and Heritage. Plus we will likely stop at Amalthea.

  2. I think my men are taking me to Sharott before we head to my brother's house (he lives nearby) for a bbq. The plan is that they will take their baseball gloves and find a field to throw in while I taste wine, cheese and chocolate. Works for me.

  3. Bill – Awesome. We will be doing a wine tour the following weekend…with a special guest (very hush hush).Robin – Sounds like a good plan!- John
