Party at the Beach

Ahhhh, there’s nothing like a night out once in a while, without the kids. And it’s even better when it’s an event hosted by a like-minded foodie friend at a swanky nightclub on the beach.Yesterday, we linked our first post for the blog Jersey Bites, a site created by the awesome web maven Deb Smith. If you’re looking for reviews and food info all over the Garden State (not just South Jersey), she has each and every county covered. Today, we’re going to try to make you a bit jealous by giving you a few impressions of the launch party for Jersey Bites that we attended recently (what can we say- we’re excited when we manage to land some babysitting and get out!). We were hanging at the “le club avenue” in Long Branch (yes, we know- it’s definitely NOT South Jersey!), a combination beach club, night club, and wedding mecca. I have no idea how the food is in the sexy, upscale restaurant downstairs (called “Avenue”, what else?), but upstairs we had a nice array of simple appetizers, from roasted cold veggies and antipasto, to passed hot hors d’oeuvres (crispy shrimp with chili dipping sauce, little mushroom quiches). But we were hobnobbing in the nightclub, complete with a bar, ocean views, and a terrace with a little “soaking pool” and roaring fireplace overlooking the ocean. Oh, yeah….

Although the food was good, we were most impressed with the dessert goodies provided by Cake, Bake and Roll
These were little “mojito cupcakes”-treats for grownups flavored with lime and mint. Adorable and evil, as they were addictive; I just kept popping them in my mouth one after the other. They’re small, so the calories don’t count, right?

Here’s my dapper husband and partner-in-blog-crime, blending in with the slick surroundings. Hubba hubba:

And, of course, the diva herself, Deb, whom we thank for hosting such a great time.

For what it’s worth, the restaurant seemed to have a steady amount of patrons for a pre-season weeknight. If you have a few dollars to spend, are in the Long Branch area and are looking for a fantasy-inspired night out at the beach, you might want to check this place out. Though I wonder if, during high season, John and I wouldn’t be “fabulous” enough to get in the front door!

  1. E, you're on our Mercer county VIP list for sure. Read our post on JB, we're planning to recreate the evening in each county.
