It’s a TV series that has been mentioned so many times over the past several months, and yet not one episode has even been aired yet. But finally, HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire” will make its debut this Sunday September 19 at 9PM. This is the series that brings together the creative forces of Martin Scorsese and Terence Winter, and is based on the Nelson Johnson book entitled “Boardwalk Empire: The Birth, High Times and Corruption of Atlantic City”.
Here’s a preview to get you all revved up. As a warning to you, there is some violence here, so this clip may not be appropriate for the little ones:
The Atlantic City Convention and Visitors Authority have teamed up once again with the restaurants in the city for a special promotion to celebrate this exciting new series. From September 16 to 30, participating restaurants will be having a special prix fixe menu for only $19.20. In addition, some restaurants will be making specialty cocktails that will emulate the time period. Check out the list of restaurants here.
Some restaurants are planning to really get into the mood of the period piece. Tony Boloney’s, for instance, will have their waitstaff dressed for the 20s (1920s, that is) and promise to create an appropriate atmosphere at their place. Sounds like they’re going have to have fun with the event – which, considering how they were at the Cheesesteak Battle, makes all the sense in the world to me.
With the casinos taking it on the chin over the past couple of years, there is hope that this series will bring some much needed attention to Atlantic City. Still need to get a grocery store down there, too…but that’s another discussion altogether. If nothing else, this promotion gives you another opportunity to try a restaurant in the area for an affordable price.
