Friday Foodstuffs 4.8.11: Unwind From The Grind

Our theme this Friday? We’ve been  too crazy-busy around here to stop and have a theme, and I need a drink. Wait- that’s it! Lots of opportunities to relax and imbibe this weekend around our fair state- check them out!

Tonight begins the Treasures from “Down Under” Australian  and New Zealand Wine Weekend at The Golden Inn Hotel and Resort  in Avalon and runs through Sunday. There’s also the Brooklyn Brewery Beer Dinner at the
Swedes Inn  in Swedesboro, and a Wine Tasting and Lecture at the Collingswood Community Center – 30 West Collings Avenue, Collingswood at 7:30PM ( $30 per person.call for info: 856.854.8927).

Saturday begins the Spring Wine Release Weekend at Bellview Winery in Landisville, and the Blackberry Wine Release Weekend at Swansea Vineyards in Shiloh. There’s also Beer Wars II 2011 at the High Street Grill  in Mount Holly, and Corked or Uncorked? at Heritage Vineyards  in Mullica Hill.

Alcohol not your thing? Let’s concentrate on the food. This weekend wraps up  Jersey Shore Restaurant Week at participating restaurants in Ocean and Monmouth County. Saturday also has the FoodFilmFest – Festa Italiana we talked about earlier this week at Ashley-McCormick Center in  Bridgeton, and the Friends for Food Fundraiser at Vitarelli’s Grand Ballroom in Oaklyn. On Sunday, enjoy an Herb Dinner with Gale Gross at Steve & Cookie’s By The Bay in Margate.

You Be The Chef: The Easter Show at Georgian Court University in Lakewood. 5 Contemporary Fish Dishes Every Cook Should Know at Sur La Table – The Promenade at Sagemore in Marlton. Saturday: Anthony Bourdain’s Kitchen Basics starts tonight (every Friday, 9th-23rd) at Sur La Table in Marlton. Cape Cuisine: Decadent Desserts at the Cape May Court House Library. Moroccan Tajine at Kitchen Kapers in Moorestown.

Sunday: Sunday Brunch for Kids and Kids in the Kitchen – Easter at the Cupcake Corner at Kitchen Kapers. What’s New, Cupcake? at Sur La Table  in Marlton. Champagne Brunch at Viking Cooking School

 

Blogging Out Hunger

The town of Burleigh has its permits in place, and work has begun on the Free Meal Center, and you can volunteer to make the outside look spiffy this Saturday.

Donate some sticky, happy smiles for kids-drop off some peanut butter and jelly if you’re in Deptford.

The Curves gyms in the Egg Harbor Township area  are collectively holding  a food drive for area food banks until the 17th.

Exciting stuff from Beer-Stained Letter: Cape May Brewing Company got their federal license. Now they wait for state approval.

Looks like  Tony Baloney’s Slaughterfest (AC”s biggest street festival) is going to be a “crowdfest” this year: ?uestlove of the Roots has been confirmed as the ” resident DJ“.

Philly restaurateur Tony Clark, a self-proclaimed “shoobie”to the Cape May area, is now leasing The Old Grange Restaurant in Historic Cold Spring Village.

And a man made off with a whole bag of pig’s feet at the Millville Save-A-Lot…we think if  he knows how to cook them up to be delicious, he should be pardoned.
