You would think, at this point, it would be hard to find an Asian cuisine that is not talked about much these days. And yet, there is one country that does not seem to get much attention at all.
Let’s talk Laos.
Situated between China, Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia, Laos certainly has great culinary influences from its neighbors. And, like Vietnam, there are touches of French cooking as well.
As part of their celebration of Asian American Heritage Month, Ocean County Library is going to have a series of Laotian cooking demonstrations later this month at a number of their branches. These demonstrations will be performed by Penn Hongthong, cooking instructor, caterer and author of two Laotian cookbooks: Simple Laotian Cooking (2003) and Healthy Lao Cuisine (2009). She has also presented Laotian cuisine on her own “Simple Lao Cuisine” show on public television.
If you’re interested, here’s the schedule of cooking demos Ms. Honthong will be conducting:
5/23 – Jackson Branch, 2 Jackson Drive. 732.928.4400. Program starts at 7PM.
