We carved our pumpkin last night. In an effort to make sure it was a family project, we let our son decide how the pumpkin was going to be carved. His choice: an Angry Birds pumpkin.
And so, yours truly fashioned our pumpkin with a ticked off face of one of those round and red birds. It works, I guess. These kids today with their rock and roll music and their Angry Birds. I tell ya…
OK – before I go off on an old man tangent, let me get to the crux of the matter. If you like carving pumpkins and fancy yourself an artiste of the jack-o-lantern genre, the El Tenampa location right here in Lacey Twp is holding a Pumpkin Carving Contest on October 28 and 29, and your $5 entrance fee to compete goes to the Lacey Food Bank. The contest is open to all ages.
If you’re not from the Ocean County area, El Tenampa is a local (sort of) chain of mom and pop Mexican restaurants with locations in Brick, Toms River, Manahawkin and now in Forked River on Route 9 (where the Riverside Diner used to be).
The judging of the pumpkins, along with lots of other fun things, will be taking place at El Tenampa on October 30. There will be cash prizes for the top three pumpkins, including $100 for the 1st place winner, so expect to see some wonderful creativity on display. If you need any additional information on the contest, please call 609.607.8226 and speak with Sharon at the restaurant.
