Do you like Wegman’s? If you’ve shopped there, you probably do. Sadly, it’s a bit of schlepp for us to get to the nearest Wegman’s. We’re not bitter, mind you…not much, anyway.
But don’t let our Wegaman’s withdrawal issues get in the way of you enjoying Strawberry Days, which will be taking place Friday through Sunday. Strawberry Days is a joint effort between Wegman’s and Driscoll’s to help support The Children’s Home Society of New Jersey. For every package of Driscoll’s strawberries you purchase (yes, I know – they’re from California…but it is for a good cause), fifty cents will be donated to the Children’s Home Society’s Infant Foster Care Program.
Got some awesome events going on this weekend!
Don’t believe me? Well, come get some!
Get your barbecuin’ groove on, for the New Jersey State Barbecue Championship on New Jersey Avenue in North Wildwood is upon us. And while you’re enjoying top notch ‘cue, you have the blues festival going on at the same time. Admission is free (you do need to pay for the barbecue, though).
This weekend is also the Barrel Trail Wine Trail Weekend for Jersey wineries. and each winery will be having their own special events – including wine tasting, of course. Check your local wineries (and isn’t it nice to have local wineries here in South Jersey) to see what they are planning for the weekend.
It may be Strawberry Days at Wegman’s, but it’s surely still blueberry season here in South Jersey. On Saturday, you have a Blueberry Pickin’ event at Franklin Parker Reserve on Route 53 in Chatsworth. The pickin’ goes from 9AM to 11AM, and it’s$5 per person (free for kids!). Sunday’s blueberry fun includes a Blueberry Tasting at Whitesbog Village in Browns Mills and a Blueberry Festival at Lutheran Church of Our Saviour in Stone Harbor.
Anything else? Sure.
Saturday is also the day for the South Jersey Caribbean Festival at Wiggins Waterfront Park in Camden, Pour-A-Palooza at The Pour House in Westmont, and the annual Summer Fest Gala at Balic Winery in Mays Landing.
Sunday has the Sundaes on Sunday benefit event at Kennedy Park in Somers Point from 12PM to 6PM.
And don’t forget that the Ocean County Fair, Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Italian Festival in Hammonton, and the Wings ‘n Water Festival at The Wetlands Institute in Stone Harbor are still going on and will run through the weekend.
If you care to venture out of South Jersey this weekend…
The Hispanic Fiesta takes over Penn’s Landing this weekend.
Here’s your cooking class schedule for the weekend:
Sunday: Southern Specialties from the hit movie “The Help” and New York Steakhouse at Viking Cooking School, The Best of Summer Canning at Sur La Table, and Kids in the Kitchen: S’Mores Buffet at Kitchen Kapers.
