Eating, Drinking and Cooking in South Jersey This Weekend (7/20-22)

It’s a great weekend if you like your seafood. And if you don’t like seafood, do you mind if I take that off your plate…here, let me use my fork…thanks so much. Num num num…

Oh yeah – where was I going with that? Right…seafood festivals!

Let’s start Friday night with a Lobsterfest Spectacular that’s being held at Atlantic City Country Club in Northfield. Lobsters with all the trimmings for $69.95 per person.

And then on Saturday, take your pick between the NJ Crab Festival being held at Ice House Restaurant in Wildwood, which starts at 11AM, and the Seafood Festival on Landis Avenue in Vineland starting at 4PM. Heck, why choose when you could attend both!

The county fairs are in full swing, and this weekend you have a couple of fairs going on at the same time. The Burlington County Farm Fair is being held this year at their new location on Route 206 and Jacksonville-Jobstown Road in Springfield Twp. There is a $10 parking fee for the fair. This is also the weekend for the Cape May County 4-H Fair & Chicken Bar-B-Que in Cape May Court House. Admission is free. Both fairs end on Saturday, so don’t show up on Sunday You’ve been warned.

The Atlantic City Caribbean Carnival will be going on Friday and Saturday, so there just might be some music, dancing and food taking place. Just a guess.

On Saturday, you have a number of options. There’s the return of the Black Family Heritage Festival along the river in Burlington from 11AM to 8PM.

The annual New Jersey State Ice Cream Festival on Washington Street in Toms River will be taking place from 11:30AM to 5PM. To partake in the tasting, the cost is $7 per tasting kit.

People have used yoga as a way to take away stress and relax. People have also used wine for the same reasons. On Saturday, Amalthea Cellars in Atco is having a Yoga and Wine event at 12PM, so be prepared to be put into a comatose state. (OK – not really.)

Staying on that theme – wine, not comatose – it’s the Summer Chill Wine Festival at Renault Winery Resort and Golf from 12PM to 4:30PM. The cost is $20 per person.

Saturday is also the annual Japanese Obon Festival at Seabrook Buddhist Temple in Upper Deerfield Twp starting at 5:30PM. Japanese food will be part of the dancing and drumming festivities.

The British Motor Club of South Jersey is having an Ice Cream Social at 5 Points Custard in East Vineland from 6PM to 8:30PM on Saturday. Did you know there was a British Motor Club of South Jersey, ’cause I didn’t know we had one. Don’t hold out on me like that, ‘kay?

And on Sunday, it’s the start of Farm Fresh Collingswood Restaurant Week and SJ Hot Chefs’ Farm to Fork Week.

And and…Monday is start of the Pine Barrens Festival at Church of the Holy Eucharist  in Tabernacle.

If you care to venture out of South Jersey this weekend…

The Philadelphia Zoo is having a Summer Ale Festival on Saturday starting at 6:30PM. A word of advice: that concept of not feeding the animals? Really really important to keep in mind.

Here’s your cooking class schedule for this weekend:

Saturday: Brewing Blueberries at Franklin Parker Preserve in Chatsworth and Surf and Turf Workshop at Viking Cooking School in Harrah’s Resort in Atlantic City.

Sunday: Celebration Brunch and Titanic Dinner Party at Viking Cooking School, and Kids in the Kitchen: Pizza! Pizza! at Kitchen Kapers in Moorestown.
