Eating, Drinking and Cooking in South Jersey This Weekend (8/31-9/2)

We’ve come once again to Labor Day Weekend, meaning that another summer is heading off into a brilliant sunset.hope everyone was able to enjoy themselves this summer, which was your typical sticky humid Jersey kind of summer. Usually, this weekend is a little thin on events and big on cookouts. The cookouts will still be going strong, but if you choose to do something else there are a number of foodie events for your liking.

You still have time to enjoy Wildwood Restaurant Week, which ends on Friday. It’s a four-course meal for only $30 a person.

Saturday has an interesting mix of things taking place. West Cape May will be holding it annual Tomato Festival at Wilbraham Park from 9AM to 5PM. The admission if free, and they promise quirkiness. We like quirkiness. It will be a Labor Day Luau at Natali Vineyards in Cape May Court House from 1PM to 8PM on Saturday. Admission is also free, and wine tastings will be $5. The Atlantic City ballet is having a Beer for the Arts fundraiser at Sandi Pointe Coastal Bistro in Somers Point from 4PM to 8PM. The cost is $45 per person and will feature many local brews in the Delaware Valley as well as Gary Monterosso.

Golden Nugget in Atlantic City is having a two-day Bubba Gump Shrimp Fest on the Deck from 12PM to 8PM on Saturday and Sunday. My guess is that there will be shrimp available.

And then on Sunday, you got two events that capture the mood of the weekend, Labor Day barbecues and the start of football season! The Southern Ocean Chamber of Commerce is throwing a Pig Skin Pig Roast Family Tail Gate at Doc Cramer Field in Manahawkin from 1PM to 5PM. Admission is $25 per person and only $10 for kids ages 12 and under. Meanwhile, over along the Delaware, it will be the annual Camden Waterfront Backyard BBQ at Wiggins Waterfront Park in Camden from 2PM to 10PM.

If you care to venture out of South Jersey this weekend…

You’re on your own. Enjoy your holiday weekend, and we’ll keep South Jersey here while you’re gone. I do hear that they’re throwing this kind of big music festival in Philly on Saturday.

Here’s your cooking class schedule for the weekend:

Saturday: Mexican Fiesta and Celebration Dinner Party at Viking Cooking School at Harrah’s Resort in Atlantic City.

Sunday: Southern Specialties from the hit movie “The Help” and Titanic Dinner Party at Viking Cooking School.
