Let’s face it: the Friday Foodstuffs post has been rather erratic in delivery lately; either it’s not on Friday or not at all. Truth be told, I have not had the time to put it together consistently.
That should change soon.
After three or so years of looking, I finally start a new full-time job next week! This will get me back into a better routine for writing, believe it or not. hopefully, this will mean that the Thursday and Friday posts will actually come out on Thursday and Friday. And I will continue to tinker with the Friday Foodstuffs format. For today, I’ve expanded the restaurant coverage to include some notes on places we ate at recently along with some restaurant specials. Let us know what you think and if you would like to see other things.
Restaurant News and Notes
Hoo boy, have we found a place we like: Shore Fire Grille in Barnegat! Ate there twice in a week. Really good casual fare with a level of sophistication that’s hard to find in Ocean County. They might be serving the best wings I have ever had in my life. Seriously. Look for a review very soon…Now that there are two BBQ joints in Point Pleasant, it’s time to taste and compare. Had a pulled pork sammich from Woodchuck’s BBQ, which was not bad. Now I need to do the same with Hickory Hog at their new location…Catelli’s in Voorhees, which has been closed for some time now, is ready to open at its new location – and with a new name: Catelli Duo. The new restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner starting September 17…This past week, Little Mama’s Cafe opened in Bridgeton, which is trying to develop a culinary district downtown…Evidently, there is now a Thai restaurant in Lakehurst called Green Leaf. Will have to check it out at some point to see if it something to be excited about or not…Speaking on Thai, glad to hear that Siam Spice in Toms River is expanding their restaurant, meaning they are continuing to do good work and are bringing in the customers…Carluccio’s in Northfield has been doing very well since it opened earlier this year, which has created some issues for locals…Dewey’s Dogs will soon be opening its doors here in Forked River, and we will have to say goodbye to the food truck…more from Forked River: White Castle, which was planning on putting a new location in town, is now suing the township over hours of operation restrictions. My health can wait a while longer for a White Castle right down the road.
Some restaurant specials to mention…Ram’s Head Inn in Galloway is now offering prix fixe meals for lunch and dinner during the week…West Side Gravy in Collingswood is doing a burger special for $8.95, while Blackbird next door is having a special prix fixe meal for $23.99…Girasole in Atlantic City is being fashionably early for fall with a Fashionable Early happy hour menu available from 5PM to 7PM Monday through Friday. While you dine, you may get a little fashion show from next door to view what’s hot from Italy.
Here’s the Farmers’ Market Report
The Apple Pie Baking Contest at the Collingswood Farmers’ Market will be held on October 20.
Blogging Out Hunger
There will be a food drive in Ocean City next week for the Food Cupboard food pantry.
And in other food news this week…
Some South Jersey wine growers are getting excited about this year’s vintage potential.
The annual Polish festival in Cherry Hill will not be returning this year. The event had taken place for 43 years.
It looks like at least one food truck gets to stay open in Ocean County…for now, anyway.
And how about an ‘Edible Book’ competition? Check out what’s going on at Mount Laurel Library.
