Eating, Drinking and Cooking in South Jersey This Weekend (10/12-14)

It’s two, two, TWO restaurant weeks for the price of…well…the price they are charging, of course!

During Fall Harvest Week, brought to you by SJ Hot Chefs, the price will be either $25 or $35 for a four-course meal. Choose from over 35 restaurants throughout Burlington, Camden and Gloucester counties. We’re working on having an interview or two from a couple of the Hot Chefs themselves next week. Fall harvest Week runs from October 14 to 19.

At the same time, Collingswood is going to have its own Fall Restaurant Week, and rumor has it that there are a few decent places to eat on Haddon Avenue (wink-wink). Check out Collingswood’s website for menus and such.

As for this weekend, you got lots to ponder.

You may nave noticed a bit more chill in the air, maybe a few leaves on the ground, and maybe even a few Halloween decorations festively placed on front porches. And what’s fall and Halloween without pumpkins? Well, for one thing, it would be hard to have the South Jersey Pumpkin Show this weekend at the Salem County Fairgrounds in Woodstown. Thankfully, we have pumpkins and hence the aforementioned Pumpkin Show can go on. The admission is free, by the way.

Friday night is the annual Wine & Chocolate Tasting for Gloucester County College at Wedgwood Country Club in Turnersville. It’s wine; it’s chocolate; it’s delicious. It’s only $50 a person ($45 for GCC alumni), and starts at 6:30PM.

And then, following Friday, you have Saturday. It just seems to conveniently work out that way. If you’ve been on the sidelines for Oktoberfest so far, you have more chances this Saturday. Keg & Kitchen in Westmont is throwing a fun version of Oktoberfest which will include a root beer garden for kids. The fest runs from 1PM to 7PM for $35 per person. Latitudes on the River right here in Forked River is having an Octoberfest of their own starting at 2PM. The cost is only $10 per person.

And there’s more. The annual Apple Festival at Kirby’s Mill in Medford goes from 9AM to 4PM. The Voorhees Town Center will be the location for the Columbus Cultural Festa from 10AM to 5PM. And at Rea’s Farm in West Cape May, it’s their annual Harvest Country Fair. What ties all these three events together? Free admission.

On Sunday, get your Ukie on with a Ukrainian-American Dinner at Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church on Hogbin Road in Millville. The serving starts at 12PM, and the cost is $10 a person.

And, on Monday, it’s the 2nd annual Chef’s Night – A Taste of the Jersey Shore to support The Hope Center in Toms River. The event is being held at Woodlake Country Club in Lakewood, and will cost you $40 at the door. It’s a great cause, there will be great food served, and we will be going as well.

If you care to venture out of South Jersey this weekend…

A cheesesteak battle in Philly? Yes – at Square 1682 on Sunday.
