Announcing: A Call for Summer Interns

Looking for something productive to do with your time this summer? How about writing/editing for our site and newsletter, or working to publicize and market our brand, while attending food events for free  and and being introduced to chefs, writers/editors and other business connections in the South Jersey/Philadelphia food world? We are looking for three talented  interns this summer (preferably to earn college credits and we will abide by your school’s internship requirements; otherwise, it is non-paid) to help us out with writing/editing, or publicizing/marketing our site (and even help us in the development an exciting new Eating In South Jersey media project!). If you still need to make money at that summer job, don’t worry: these are “virtual”  positions that you can fit into your schedule (internships you can do 90% from the comfort of your computer on your own time-with the exception of some events or meetings that will require your attendance).

3 Available Internships (all are virtual):

Content Development/Editorial Intern (2 positions)


  • Generating story ideas and authoring articles for both the website and newsletter
  • Researching assigned topics
  • Editing/proofreading writer’s content
  •  Updating events pages
  • Occasional attendance at culinary/media events (some local travel may be required; we will reimburse for expenses)
  • Some input/management of databases and lists

Skills Required:

  •  Strong editing, writing, and proofreading skills (2 writing clips required)
  • Excellent and professional phone manner and communications skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work efficiently alone or in a group
  • Some WordPress/HTML/SEO savvy a plus, but not required

Marketing/PR Intern (1 position)


  • Assist in creating the content and design of marketing ideas and materials to promote the website, newsletter, and other Eating In South Jersey projects
  • Utilize social media to promote the site, newsletter, and its related projects
  • Assist in the development of sponsored culinary classes and production of Google Plus Hangouts
  • Assist in the communications with and scheduling of sponsors and the acquisition of new sponsors
  • Occasional attendance at culinary/media events (some local travel may be required; we will reimburse for expenses)

Skills Required

  • Strong marketing, writing and research skills (2 writing samples required)
  • Excellent and professional phone manner and interpersonal communications
  • Responsible social media savvy and experience a must
  • Ability to work efficiently alone or in a group
  • Some SEO savvy and experience with Microsoft Publisher and Powerpoint a plus, but not required
  • Some technical knowledge of Google Plus and You Tube a plus, but not required

Intern Will Learn/Acquire:

  • The daily operations details of an online publishing business, including how to build and sustain business relationships, an online presence, and an online community
  • How to apply writing, editing, marketing, PR, and communications skills effectively in the actual business world
  • A working understanding of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and social media (Facebook,Twitter,LinkedIn/Pinterest/RebelMouse),and how to use it to efficiently and effectively grow a business
  • Connections and contacts within a broad range of the culinary and publishing world in Southern New Jersey and Philadelphia area (via culinary/media events and Eating In South Jersey’s business and personal contacts).

Additional Position Details:

  • Only those with an interest and passion for food and the culinary world should apply. Some previous knowledge is nice, however, not required: we love to share our foodie enthusiasm and teach!
  • Since this is a “virtual position”, hours are extremely flexible and can be worked around the student’s schedules (with the exception of occasional scheduled culinary/media events where their prompt attendance is required); the only expectation is that assignments are completed on deadline.
  • Interns will receive academic credit for this position. (Position is unpaid)
