So What’s to Know About the 2013 Cape May Food & Wine Celebration

CapeMayFoodAndWine-014

This year’s edition of the Cape May Food & Wine Celebration is starting up this weekend, and while many of the usual events are back for an encore, there are some new and intriguing ones…

What’s New for 2013:

  • A Taste of Cape May – Bring the best area wineries and restaurants together under one roof (in this case the roof of the new Cape May Convention Hall) and you’ve got yourselves a party. That’s just what will be going on September 22nd from 1PM to 4PM. Tickets are $30 for this event, which will feature acclaimed dining establsihments such as The Ebbitt Room, Peter Shields Inn, and The Mad Batter.
  • Bourbon Tasting Dinner – How does one become a bourbon connsousier? By sampling enough bourbon, of course. On Saturday, September 21st,  from 6PM to 8PM, experience this four-course pairing meal at the very-Victorian Aleathea’s at the Inn of Cape May. The nuances of bourbon and how it’s made will be discussed as you taste various types for yourself. Cost: $75 per person.

Of course, there are always some tried and true regular events that are simply spectacular year after year. One of our favorites, one we think you just shouldn’t miss, is the Chef’s Dine Around. If you are still acclimating yourself to the culinary scene in this town or just can’t make up you mind where to go when you’re there, this event is for you. Here’s the deal: you jump on a trolley and get shuttled around to enjoy a course  at each fine-dining establishment, five in all. Each course is served with wine, with a representative from the sponsoring winery on hand to explain the pairings. The cost, $125 per person (did I mention there is wine with every course?!) makes this a steal. There are only four nights available,  September 15, 16,18, and 19 and they tend to sell out quick.

And for the most bang for your buck, grab a $15 ticket for the Self-Guided Winery and Brewery Trail. While away an afternoon checking out and sampling Cape May’s premiere libations at Natali Vineyards, Hawk Haven Vineyard and Winery,  Jessie Creek Winery, and the Cape May Brewing Company.
