LBI Chowderfest XXV is Coming!

I have to be honest, I see the Roman numeral XXV and I think of the late Whitney Houston singing the national anthem and Scott Norwood missing a 47-yarder (which inspired the indie film ‘Buffalo 66’, but there’s no time for digressions!),

From one Super Bowl to another super bowl…or chowder, that is. Well, you don’t actually get a bowl…you get little plastic cups, and…oh boy, digressing yet again…

October 6 will be the 25th anniversary of Chowderfest on LBI, and in honor of the Super Bowl being played in Jersey this time around, Chowderfest is going with a Souper Bowl theme on their T-shirts. The competition will once again be super, with 19 different area restaurants vying for the title of best red and white chowders. Here are the competitors:

The Arlington (Ship Bottom)
Arcadia Nursing & Rehabilitation Center (Little Egg Harbor)
Shore Fire Grille (Barnegat)
Buckalews Restaurant & Tavern (Beach Haven)
Stefano’s Seafood & Pasta (North Beach Haven)
Sea Oaks Country Club (Little Egg Harbor)
Lefty’s Tavern (Barnegat)
The Chicken or the Egg (Beach Haven)
Country Kettle Chowda (Beach Haven)
TGI Friday’s (Manahawkin)
Black Whale Bar & Fish House (Beach Haven)
Howard’s (Beach Haven Gardens)
Southern Smoke (Wall)
Phillips Seafood Restaurant (Atlantic City)
Chart House (Atlantic City)

Also in competiton…you, if you so choose! They are bringing back the Chowder Cup Caddy Contest in which you are judged on the caddy you use to hold your chowder cups. If you have never been to Chowderfest before, you will find out right away that the locals who attend every year are professionals when it comes to their caddies. For many, great pains are taken to make them look stylin’.

Admission is once again $20, and expect there to be lots and lots of hungry folks there. It’s a lot of fun and hope you can mke it!
