We get hit with a metric ton of statistics every day of our lives. It can become a cacophonic barrage that we just simply tune out for fear of overload. Then your eyes come across one that makes you just stop.
And take notice.
Something like this, from the Food Bank of South Jersey:
“According to the 2014 Hunger in America Study released in August by Feeding America, the Food Bank of South Jersey served nearly 200,000 individual clients last year. This number is more than double the total of clients served in 2010, the last time the study was compiled.”
So between 2010 and 2013, the number of people needing assistance from the Food Bank of South Jersey more than doubled. Wow.
September is Hunger Action Month, and today (September 4) is designated as Hunger Action Day. If you have a moment, and have the means, take a little time and make a donation. Help your neighbors and friends who are hurting. If not today, sometime this month. And if you can’t donate money, donate your time (which is also a valuable commmodity).
One more thing: check out the FBSJ website for all the activities and events taking place during Hunger Action Month
