Eating, Drinking and Cooking in South Jersey This Weekend (6/29-7/1)

The Fourth is almost upon us-and usually before a big holiday like this one there’s a “calm before the storm”. Not so this weekend. In fact, we’ve already been so jam-packed this week attending things and raising two kids, I’m stepping in for John to put up this quick post so you good folks out there know what’s going on. So, this may not be as clever as John’s normal post, but it will get the job done. Enjoy your weekend and get out there and have fun!

If you care to venture out of South Jersey…

Wawa Welcome America! Is putting on an absolutely HUGE Independence Day celebration in Philadelphia lasting more than a week which will include performances by the Roots, Queen Latifah and Darryl Hall, but you’ll have to investigate those on your own (it’s just too big to write about here). The stuff going on at Penn’s Landing is more manageable-and is more food oriented:

Friday, from 5:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m., begins the 3-day food extravaganza, Taste of Philadelphia; but along with all the foodie hubbub are world-class jazz and blues artists, such as Laura Izibor, performing on the RiverStage.

Saturday the fun continues from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and on Sunday from 11:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. with headliners Regina Carter and Byron Cage. And don’t forget to stay for the fireworks after the show on Saturday night! 301 S. Columbus Blvd, Philadelphia. www.welcomeamerica.com
